Child Protection

Protecting Children and Vulnerable Adults

All children, young people and vulnerable adults who live in, or visit, North Down should be supported to fulfil their potential. This is Council's fundamental aim in producing an updated Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults (CPVA) Policy.

The Policy relates to all functions of the Council where employees, volunteers or hired persons work directly/indirectly, or come into contact with, children and/or vulnerable adults.

Council will endeavour to ensure that all employees and volunteers are carefully selected, trained and made familiar with the CPVA Policy. Pre-employment checks will be carried out to strive to prevent unsuitable people from working with or around children/vulnerable adults within the context of Council activity.

Hired persons commissioned by Council for service provision purposes will be made aware of the Policy and in the absence of a CPVA policy of their own will be required to adopt the Council's Policy as a condition of their contract to work. Clubs/organisations and individuals using Council's facilities will also be required to adopt the Council's CPVA Policy in the absence of a policy of their own.

Council hopes that the new CPVA policy will help to assure parents, guardians and carers of children, young people and vulnerable adults that Council takes its responsibilities as a public service provider seriously. Overall our ethos is to encourage preventative action and pro-activity. History shows that inaction can have devastating consequences.
