Dog Control & Advice
In addition to the licensing of dogs, the Department's Enforcement Officers respond to all complaints regarding dogs straying, fouling in public places and barking excessively. The Officers carry out regular patrols, hopefully ensuring stray dogs and the problems they cause, such as fouling and road traffic accidents, can be prevented.
The Enforcement Officers deal with complaints in relation to dangerous dogs and attacks by dogs on people and livestock.
Educating the public about responsible dog ownership and hygiene is an important role for the Dog Wardens, who are willing to talk to either dog owners or organised groups such as schools, dog training groups, youth groups etc. on a variety of topics.
If a dog barking excessively disturbs you, you have observed stray dogs, or just want advice on matters concerning dogs, please contact the Department.
