Sports Development
'Promoting Sport and Recreation to the residents of North Down'
North Down Borough Council Sports Development Unit, based at Bangor Sportsplex aims to create and develop pathways for individuals and sports clubs, to raise awareness and the profile of sport within the Borough.
North Down Borough Council work in partnership with many external agencies, SportNI, SEELB, Sport South East, National Governing Bodies andLocal Sports Clubs and:
- provide grant aid to sports clubs and individuals within the North Down Borough
- provide a coach education programme throughout the year, allowing coaches to extend their knowledge and understanding of coaching through Professional Development Courses, such as, Child Protection Awareness Training and First Aid
- run introductory courses for young people in various sports
- work with North Down Sports Advisory Council and Local Sports Clubs to run the North Down Youth Games
- organise events, such as the International U16 Rosebowl Tournament, for Ladies Football in conjunction with ‘Clubs for Young People NI'
