New Recycling Centre Overhead PlanHow will I use the new site?

The new site is different to Rathgael (and most other civic amenity sites in Northern Ireland) in a number of ways:

Please note that the site is not licensed to take asbestos. Tyres, gas cylinders and some other hazardous materials will not be accepted.

Like the Rathgael Road facility the new site is a strictly no-smoking area.

The Environmental Education Information Centre-Education Room.

The Education Room overlooks the Balloo Recycling Centre and Balloo Wood (where the Wind Turbine is sited).
This room is available for school and community groups (maximum 30 people). Visits can include talks, presentations and activities. Please contact the Recycling and Waste Minimisation Officer on 028 9127 0302 if you have a group that would like to visit the Education Room.

Where is the new site situated?

location map of new recycling centre

Balloo Avenue, Bangor.
It is accessible from Balloo Drive and the Newtownards Road.

Customer use has been at the forefront of the design process and so, for example, the site will be very clean, you will not need to put on old clothes to use it and will be able to recycle on your way to and from work. Trained staff will be on hand at all times to help users separate their waste and dispose of bulky items.

The environmental education centre will facilitate visits by interested groups and schools interested in environmental issues. It will furnish information not just about reducing, reusing and recycling, but also about renewable energy, Council's proposed wind turbine, the Balloo Wood complex, the Wetlands Park at the new Business Village, etc.
