Councillor David Alderdice

David Alderdice has been elected for his first term in North Down Borough Council, although he has been councillor on Belfast City Council since 1997 representing the Victoria electoral area and was Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1998/99.
David has been a member of the Alliance Party for 20 years. He is its Economy Spokesperson and a member of both its central strategy committee and ruling council.
Planning and law and order are his specific interests – he believes in the need to change planning legislation and restore respect for law and order.
David is a consultant dermatologist, having studied medicine at Queens University of Belfast and Politics/Philosophy and Economics at Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and the Royal College of Physicians.
He is chair of youth Lyric, the largest amateur youth drama organisation in Ireland.
A member of his local church and his community police forum, his interests include reading political and historical biographies, playing squash and he supports Ireland Rugby Team.
